Abstrak

Local knowledge plays an important role in supporting the learning process by connecting scientific concepts with students’ experiences and daily lives. The integration of local knowledge into biodiversity learning can improve students’ understanding, increase learning relevance, and develop awareness of environmental conservation and local culture. This study aims to describe the integration of local knowledge of the Pamona community into biodiversity learning at SMP Kristen GKST 3 Tentena. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research was conducted at SMP Kristen GKST 3 Tentena and in the Pamona community, which has rich biodiversity and local knowledge related to the utilization of plants and animals. The results showed that Pamona local knowledge contains scientific values that are relevant to biodiversity concepts, including sustainable use of biological resources, traditional conservation practices, classification of living organisms, and environmental protection. The integration process was carried out through learning planning, verification of local knowledge with scientific concepts, and the use of contextual learning methods such as discussions, storytelling, and environmental observation. Students responded positively because learning materials became more meaningful and easier to understand. This study concludes that integrating local knowledge into science learning can enhance biodiversity understanding while fostering cultural pride and environmental responsibility. Therefore, local knowledge-based learning materials should be continuously developed to support contextual and sustainable science education.
